Badly Drawn Boy, Once Around the Block
Growing up in the Lancashire town of Bolton obviously inspired Damon Gough’s early musical output. The sound is a mix of a sort of pastoral / natural ambience alongside a more urban sound which is probably inspired by Manchester. Maybe I am reading too much into the background of Badly Drawn Boy but I just the overall feel of the whole of Hour of the Bewilderbeast. The album was released in 2000 on both Twisted Nerve Records (a label which Damon founded) and the London label XL. The record went straight to number one in the UK and catapulted Badly Drawn Boy into the media spotlight immediately. He followed up his debut L.P. with the soundtrack to the worldwide hit movie About a Boy and endeared himself to a generation of music and film fans.
Here is the sheet music for the opening 16 bars of the song. You should be able to work out the rest of the song as it pretty much just repeats these patterns all the way through. The chords are presented in TAB and standard sheet music so it should work on any instrument. We hope that you enjoy playing this music as much as we do!
